Local Students Spread Holiday Cheer to Patients and Residents in Care throughout the New Year

Jan 3, 2025 | Community, Donation, News Article, Newsletter, Youth Program

This holiday season, students from across the Fraser Valley have taken the spirit of giving to heart by spreading warmth and cheer to those who celebrated Christmas and the New Year in local hospitals.

Organized by Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation – Youth Advisory Committee, a heartfelt card drive brought together local schools, clubs, and organizations to create and distribute festive holiday cards to patients and residents at several healthcare facilities.

Ryan Tandiama, Chair of the Youth Advisory Committee, stated, “The cards were distributed with help of different people. Thanks to the generous support from our community, we’ve been able to donate cards to Abbotsford Regional Hospital, Chilliwack General Hospital, Mission Memorial Hospital, Fraser Canyon Hospital, Bradley Centre, Heritage Village, and Fraser Hope Lodge”.

Students from the following local organizations and schools joined forces to create this impactful project:
Godson Elementary School
Abbotsford Middle School

ASIA Sumas and ASIA Sumas Key Club
Rick Hansen Secondary School and RHSS Key Club
WJ Mouat Secondary School and WJM Key Club
MEI Key Club
Sardis Secondary School Key Club
G.W. Graham Secondary School Key Club
Abbotsford Senior Secondary School Key Club
Big Brothers Big Sisters
The Anaahat Project
UFV Circle K

Through this initiative, the Youth Advisory Committee members reached out to their schools and clubs to organize a holiday card drive, collecting heartfelt messages of support and encouragement from students. All holiday cards were delivered to patients and residents on Christmas morning, ensuring that everyone felt the warmth of the season.

Dr. Jassal, donor relations, Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation emphasized the significance of this initiative: “it is important we spread kindness in this world and showcase the power of community spirit. One heartfelt handwritten card can make an immense difference in the mental and emotional well-being of patients-in-care”.

As we celebrate the joy of the season, Fraser Valley Health Care Youth Advisory Committee invites local students who are interested in volunteering or being part of the youth leadership program to apply and join in spreading kindness within our community.
